Privacy at Power Public Schools
Last updated: August 31, 2026
Power Public Schools is a tuition-free public charter school opening in South Cobb County on August 2, 2027, serving grades 6–12.
Our mission is that ALL students possess a power of intrinsic intelligence, and it is our mission to excite, enlighten, and empower ALL our students to exemplify their excellence. Living that mission means handling your family's information with care. This page explains, in plain language, what information we collect, what we do with it, who we share it with, and what choices you have.
This page covers two things: information about students and families, and information collected through this website. Our full Privacy Policy, adopted by our Governing Board, is available here: link. If anything on this page and the full policy seem to differ, the full policy governs.
Students and families
What we collect
We collect what we need to enroll, teach, support, and account for your student — and nothing more. That includes:
Enrollment and contact information — student and parent names, birth date, grade, address, phone, email, proof of residency, and lottery application information.
Academic information — attendance, grades, coursework, transcripts, state test results, diagnostic and progress-monitoring results, and dual-enrollment records.
Program and services information — special education and Section 504 records, English learner screening, gifted eligibility, meal benefits, and transportation needs.
Health and safety information — immunizations, allergies, medications, emergency contacts, and incident reports.
Discipline records, where required.
Photos and recordings taken at school events, if you have given permission.
What we do not collect. We do not collect information about your family's political views, religion, or voting history. We do not collect biometric information. We do not ask about immigration or citizenship status, and it is never a condition of enrolling your student.
How we use it
To enroll and place students, teach and assess them, personalize their learning, monitor progress and step in early when a student needs help, provide special education and related services, keep students safe and healthy, communicate with you, run meals and transportation, and meet the reporting our authorizer and the state require.
How we use artificial intelligence — and what we don't do with it
Power Public Schools uses AI tools to help teachers understand where each student is and adjust instruction. We want families to know exactly where the line is:
A person always decides. No computer decides your student's grade, placement, promotion, discipline, or eligibility for services. AI can suggest; educators decide.
We do not sell your student's information. Not to anyone, for any price.
No advertising. No company that works with us may use your student's information to target ads at your family, or to build a profile of your student for anything other than their education. Georgia law requires this, and we write it into every contract we sign.
We can require deletion. Any company holding student data for us must delete it when we say so, within 45 days, and when our contract with them ends.
You can see the list. We keep a current list of every learning tool and AI system we use, what information each one receives, and post it on this site. We review it at least once a year and check tools for accessibility and for bias.
Who we share information with
We share your student's records only with your written permission, or in the specific situations the law allows:
School staff and contractors who need the record to do their job.
Another school your student is transferring to or enrolling in.
Our authorizer, Cobb County School District, and state agencies, for audit and compliance — under agreements that limit what they may do with it.
In a health or safety emergency, where the information is needed to protect your student or others.
In response to a court order or subpoena — and we will tell you first whenever the law allows us to.
Directory information, described below, unless you have opted out.
We keep a record of who has requested or received your student's information, and you can ask to see it.
Your rights as a parent
Under the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), you have the right to:
See your student's records within 45 days of asking us in writing, and to have them explained to you.
Ask us to correct anything you believe is inaccurate or misleading — and to a hearing, and to add your own statement to the record, if we disagree.
Decide who else sees the records, except in the situations listed above.
Opt out of directory information, and of sharing your high schooler's contact information with military and college recruiters.
Opt out of certain surveys about sensitive topics, and to review survey questions and instructional materials in advance.
Get this notice every year, in a language you understand.
File a complaint with us, or with the U.S. Department of Education.
When your student turns 18 or enrolls in college coursework, most of these rights transfer to the student.
To use any of these rights, contact us using the information at the bottom of this page.
Directory information and how to opt out
Some basic information is treated as "directory information," which we may share — for example, in a program for a school event, a yearbook, or an honor roll announcement — unless you tell us not to.
What we may share: student name, grade level, participation in activities and sports, dates of attendance, honors and awards, and photographs.
What we never share as directory information: home address, phone number, email address, date and place of birth, and any ID number that could be used to get into your student's records.
To opt out, send us a written request within 7 days of enrolling or of receiving our annual notice. Your opt-out stays in place until you change it. You can change your mind at any time.
Photos and video
We photograph and record students at school events for teaching, school history, and communications. You will get a media permission form when you enroll. You may say no, limit it to school-internal use only, or change your mind later — and we will honor that going forward and make a reasonable effort to take down images already posted if you ask.
This website
What we collect here
What you give us — your name, email, phone, ZIP code, the grade and school year you are interested in, and anything you write in an interest form, contact form, event registration, volunteer form, or donation form.
What is collected automatically — your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you visit, and the site you came from, through standard web logs and website analytics.
Your communication preferences — whether you are subscribed to our updates.
This website is not designed for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children through it. If you submit information about a prospective student through an interest or lottery form, that information is handled under the student and family section above.
What we do with it
We answer your question, send you the information you asked for, run the enrollment interest list and the public lottery, recruit staff and board members, thank and steward donors, and improve the site.
We do not sell your information. We do not rent or trade our mailing lists. We do not use anything collected here for targeted advertising.
Cookies and analytics
We use cookies that the site needs to work, and a website analytics service to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. You can set your browser to refuse cookies and the site will still work. We honor browser-level "do not track" signals where we are able to.
Email and text messages
Every informational email we send has an unsubscribe link, and we honor it promptly. If you sign up for text messages, you can reply STOP at any time. Messages about your specific enrollment application, your student's education, or an emergency are not marketing, and they continue regardless of your marketing preferences.
Links to other sites
Our site links to other services — social media, and where applicable an online donation processor and our job application system. Those companies collect information under their own privacy policies, which we do not control. Please read their policies before you give them information.
Keeping information safe
We protect personal information with safeguards matched to how sensitive it is: staff see only what their role requires, accounts require strong sign-in protections, information is encrypted, paper records are locked, old records are destroyed securely, every vendor is reviewed before we use it, and all staff train on privacy every year.
If something goes wrong and information is exposed, we act quickly to contain it, tell the families affected without unnecessary delay, notify our authorizer and any agency the law requires, and report to our Governing Board.
